Parsons 3D Design Studio Spring 2008
This course introduces students to the fundamental elements, principles, methods and materials of good three-dimensional design through a series of assignments that stress experimentation, problem solving and tangible results. Design Studio: 3d is a required freshman course taught in the 2nd semester following Design Studio: 2d.
By the completion of this course, each student is expected to achieve a new way of seeing, thinking, visualizing and designing in three dimensions utilizing the fundamental elements, principles, processes, methods and materials of good three dimensional design.
Working in physical model is a critical-design methodology that is still valid even with today’s advanced technology. Perhaps the best argument for working hands on in model to learn 3D design fundamentals lies in an inherent quality of the third dimension; it only truly exists in the real world. A virtual world, 3D computer space depicted on a monitor, can only create an understanding of the third dimension in our mind from the 2D information it presents to us.
